On May 6, 2015 The Evidence Network’s Dr. Margaret Dalziel delivered a presentation and conducted a Q&A session on government support of business emergence at Simon Fraser University, Beedie School of Business.
Governments support businesses through tax relief, grants, loans, and business support services. Prior research has shown that business support outcomes depend on company and entrepreneur characteristics. Commonly advocated experimental approaches to evaluation may be infeasible where business support programs are small, timelines are short, or participating companies are pre-revenue or unique. Dr. Margaret Dalziel presented an alternative approach to program evaluation and new data that benchmarks the results of a diverse range of business support initiatives from Canada, the US, China, and Europe.
